OUR STORY

Felton Ranch began as a registered herd in 1952 when Bea Jones, all 5ft of her, purchased 5 heifers from Colorado St. University and brought them back to Parnell, Missouri. Her Grandson, Frank Felton, would later develop this Hereford herd into one of the preeminent internationally recognized herds in the Nation. After the dispersal of the Hereford Herd and Dad’s untimely passing in 2003 embryos from our core HFR cows were utilized to start what is now selling as Felton Cattle Company. Over time, Angus and Simmental genetics were added to the program. We have utilized A.I. and embryo transfer for well over 30 years. Frank began collecting weaning weights and scrotals in 1962.

While the driver of the Felton Cow Ranch has changed over time, the same overarching principles of business and cattle breeding are still applied today. We don’t play favorites and let Mother Nature do most of the sorting for us. Moderate, honest, non-pampered cattle raised under real world conditions with the ability to adapt to most any environment or management system is our standard. The superpowers of this cowherd are fescue tolerance and temperament in a moderate package. With these base traits, I believe any breeder can utilize these genetics in their cowherd. They are flexible, adaptable breeding pieces and can be utilized to whatever goal your program has. These are working cattle.

The cows have all been registered into the American Simmental Association database, DNA typed and bred to SIM/Angus bulls. The heifers were A.I. bred on 5/30 and cows 6/21.  I believe the best days of the cowherd are ahead of it and hope to provide others with genetics that help them move their program in a positive direction. I fully stand behind these cattle and will be glad to assist any buyers in future breeding decisions or any other questions regarding registration of future progeny with the ASA.
